It was done before by previous owner (bad job)! Thought of cutting out old and welding in new (25mm box should do it?), foam is also falling apart!!! Just thought would try other avenues!

Tried ebay not much luck. The seat base frame is broken, the two supports that attach to frame to the sliding mechanism.

Anyone got any hints/tips/advice or ideas on repairing or replacing the seats in my disco. Apart from bucket seats are there any other options? As I've recently been made aware this is a common problem so standard replacement is hard to find.

If its whilst out of gear the sound could be from the engine, the clutch/release bearing, or the gearbox input shaft or the layshaft. If its whilst driving then the sound could be from those and/or the output shaft, the transfer box, the universal joints, propshaft sliding joints, or the axles...

A garage could perform a "sniff test" on the cooling system (detects combustion gases in coolant = head gasket problems) they could also do a cooling system pressure test (pump with gauge placed on header tank) other idea is that it could be your heater matrix (check around footwells for water)...

Does the sound change in anyway if the vehicle or the engine speed increases/decreases?
