A 1990 model and older, can still be found under $5,000 from my searches it seems. Obviously some are more spendy

So many options.. I wish so many of the older Range Classics were in better shape.. Stinks we have to wait 25 years to import stuff, a lot of stuff right outside of that limit I found... It looks like importing a Defender from 1990 and prior would be the smart thing to do at this point.

You guys really used up all the Discovery's and Range Classic of that vintage, it's really hard to find a 1990 or older in decent shape! The crazy thing is, I've found a ton of Defenders though. I didn't realize the very reasonable rates some of them go for that are from model year 1990 and older.

Fuel costs are low here. Petrol is $1.30 USD a gallon and diesel is only slightly more. I'm not really concerned about fuel costs though. The petrol v8 gets around 10-12 mpg which is terrible. It's been through various headgaskets over the years, oil pump failure, premature bearing failure...

I think adding parts and a spare engine, along with the car would create a headache for claiming it under customs. I will look into that though! Trying to figure out a place to deal with that can help me arrange all the paperwork and shipping of the car..

I will be using whatever I buy just to travel in it. A roof top tent setup, and will live out of it for a few weeks at a time, while exploring. A TDI makes a bunch of sense. Are the 200 and 300 TDI able to cruise at highway speeds without issues? The only diesel Landy I've ever driven, was an...

Haha, Not a bad idea. But if I had a running TDI I wouldn't worry about my current Disco for a long time.

I think it would be in my best interest to just buy a fully running Discovery, and decide what I want to do with mine... I've had it since new so I don't want to just scrap it. A fully running good shape tdi disco for $2,500 is a really good deal I think, the shipping will end up being probably...

Thanks for all the links, you guys rock. It seems like I could probably find a well running TDI Discovery for under $2,500, it cannot be any newer than 1991, which makes things a bit more tricky. Alot of newer ones on the market...

That's an option, but having to ship that once it lands here would be a pain. It would be much easier to just have the motor, and all the parts in a pallet shipped. My other option is to find a 1990 range classic tdi, and just buy the whole thing and enjoy it here. Where are good places...
