Hello all,

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated with the fault I’m experiencing. The frustrating thing is I don’t understand why my EPB module is Dong what it’s doing and I’m left confused and rather annoyed!

Following replacement of rear brake discs, pads and shoes, using the bible to make sure they are adjusted correctly. I got in the car and started the sequence to commence the bedding in process. The car instantly came up with “Park Brake Off Lift Switch To Apply” on the dash and showed fault code C1 A43-67, Motor supply circuit.

The EPB module also started making a clicking sound, not the almost expected whirring indicating broken gears.

I have since done/learnt the following:
-When driving and applying the parking brake, it apples perfectly fine and brings the car to a stop.its only when stationary it just clicks and doesn’t apply.
- Readjusted the brakes, motor still clicking.
- Completely readjusted the brakes, motor still slicking.
- Removed the cover to the EPB module, when the handbrake is applied, the motor actually unwinds, causing the clicking sound, so the motor is actually turning the wrong way.
-Put power to the motor directly from the battery and the motor turns and winds the mechanism the correct way applying the handbrake.
- When I pulled the hand brake switch up again, you hear it unwind and starts clicking agai, where is it’s trying to turn the wrong way.

Again when you drive the car the hand brake applies correctly, very confused and any light any of you can shed on this will be greatly appreciated.

I certainly wouldn’t apply the EBP when driving, only when stationary on my vehicle.

Did you follow the workshop manual to the letter, Ive had a quick read of cars manual although theres a bit on safety and it looked straight forward, but I decided I wont be going there , and there are other forum posts stating on have similar issues after a bit of DIY. ☹️

Theres 3 pages similar to this in my owners hand book, maybe a bit different for a D4🤔

If you pull the EPB when moving and not in bedding in mode the car will apply the service brakes with the abs pump to stop the car as well.

Thank you both for your replies, yep followed the bible to the letter.

That is interesting the abs pump is used in emergency situations and changes my way of thinking.

I will put a video up of what my EPB is doing, this video is thanks to a reply I got on another forum. Do you know why the motor would be working fine before the brake change and winding the wrong way afterwards, when it wasn’t touched, all very frustrating!

There is zero load on that motor. I'm not an expert on the epb but I would checking that everything is connected properly, no broken cables etc. It won't just be going backwards because it feels like it, it will be operating this way because a sensor or something is telling it to.

Had a similar thing on my brother's RRS. Changed the EPB and fitted new brakes, on the near side it's fine because the shoes are one way up but on the offside when they are the other way up the cable just falls off the shoe every single time you install the, Had to put a cable tie around it to keep it in place while fitting but of course didn't find out until it was all back together and then the first time we operated the parking brake it went way too far trying to take up the slack that shouldn't have been there. Definitely check the cable is seated on the offside shoe.

You may well have another issue on the cable or gearing there though as TheMunster says, it looks as though there's no load on the motor at all.
