I have a 2.5NA 1987 and just fitted a new alternator. The problem: Battery warning light won't go out.
Batter is ok, hokding 12.2 to 12.5v.
Alternator generates 14.5v. It's branded (Hela).
Checked and cleaned all connections. Diode is ok (0.509).
Voltage at the sensor post is 12.2v on ignition but drops to 7v with the engine running.
Any ideas where I can fault find next?

Hi there,

I don’t know your model of Landie but I can say that my similar problem recently turned out to be a faulty replacement alternator…Al

Is there a way I can test the alternator, not knowing where the fault is? I did write to the manufacturer but they haven't replied.
The system is at 14.6v but either side of the diode I have 7.13 and 7.2v.

My landy is a 1987 Defender 2.5NA, ex military FFR so has been rewired by the MOD.

All connections and earth points have been checked and all relays replaced.

Pretty simple check, with volt meter connected at alternator output when engine running you should have 13 to 14v showing.
However as yours is a fitted for radio military model than it would have had a 24v system.
Has it been converted?
This is an issue in that previous owners have often done 12v conversions but how they do it is anyone's guess.

Problem found!!
Removed the battery light cable from the alternator stud and connected it to the alternator pin, and everything works fine! It would seem there is an issue with the alternator stud terminal - spoken to the supplier and waiting to hear about obtaining a replacement alternator!
Thank you everyone!!
