Hi,
Please be aware of the above scam which was attempted on me 2 days ago during the sale of my LHD Freelander 2.
Two guys turn up to view - said they were from Cyprus but their car had Romanian plates. They had an F2 which was a write off due to body damage.
During call to fix appointment said that they wanted the engine to be cold to listen to it.
I asked my partner to watch them whilst I was dealing with them in my garage.
Quick (too quick) look around the vehicle, then a brief test drive by me with one of them.
Returned to garage, ask to see engine and then ask to see documents and spare wheel in quick succession
Whilst I'm at rear of vehicle (with bonnet up) and partner distracted with docs second guy slips engine oil in coolant header tank.
They then inspect the engine - hey presto your engine has developed a critical fault. We will buy your car for its scrap value and take the engine from our vehicle to fix it.
I knew something was amiss at the time, but not exactly what. Sent them away until I'd figured it out. Received a call one hour later repeating their offer.
My response was unrepeatable!
Please don't fall for it.
Cheers
