Hello Hive!
Looking to pick your brains! I've recently acquired a 2004 Defender TD5 and a few days after purchase it is no longer starting. It tries to start, but never catches. I'm worked on cars previously but far from a mechanic so apologies if I say some stupid things!

Charged battery and seeing good voltage.
Only errors are for tachometer and abs, but believe this is common and not related.

When turning to position 2 the fuel pump does run although does make some interesting sounds. I can hear the fuel pressure regulator making a noise which suggests fuel movement, but do hear an occasional pop which may suggest air in the system. I've tried the fuel priming process a few times and no change.

When cranking for a while, I start to see white smoke which guess is over fueling?

I've replaced the fuel filter for good measure. When removing the fuel filter I checked the outer pipe on the left of the fuel filter and noted that there is no air bleed valve. Should there be?

Anything else quick that I should check, before digging any further?

Thanks!
Tim

Try resetting the inertia trip solenoid on the bulkhead by pressing the rubber reset on the solenoid, mine would not start once and by resetting this it fired straight up.
