@tottot my 85 110 V8 had the Small callipers on. As the motors were built the same time as RRC they used the small ones. Was better as all the pads were the same size. Then the disco came out and same again, small callipers on some of these.
I’m...
The fact that has no number along with narrow arm brackets, larger axle end caps, swivel housing style suggest it is the original axle. I fact it looks just like my 1990 one [which is original] with more rust. Not that bad though looks like it...
Most likely is what @SimonBrown says in above post. Hot spot due to poor injector spray pattern.
Black puff is the 200's excess fuel start system working, good for getting dirty looks at the supermarket car park. :D
New head gasket, get injectors checked/reconned and crack on, no pun intended!
Cracks in the head between valves are not unusual on 200 engines, mine has had a cracked head for years, no leaks no coolant loss, keep on trucking.
I think even my...
Recon the above will give @Kremers lots to think about.
I have no idea what sort of off roading there is in Cyprus. However a much simper way to improve the capability of a standard Land Rover would be to fit locking diffs or perhaps better in...
Hi and welcome.
First off, why do you want a lift? Defender's already ride quite high, higher than most other stock 4x4's. Its like Land Rover already fitted a lift kit for you at the factory.
What are you planning on doing with the vehicle...
Although I am just guessing here, you may find that if it wasn't in the earlier brochure it was available through the special vehicle branch, which was far more of a bespoke rather than a package type specification. For example the utility...
And if you want the correct gear knob for a 2a it has a flat top unlike the round series 3 one in photo.
Available from John Craddock Land rover parts.
When you do the fronts you may need new shocks & turret rings on the shopping list.
Same process as the rear(remove roll bar if there’s 1) stands under chassis, remove panard rod can make life easier.
Just so you get this right Land Rover Ninety and One Ten models built before 1990 are not Defenders. The Defender name only came in with the arrival of the TDi 200 engine model.[same as disco]
This can be important when ordering parts.
John...
The shims you need are already in there, it is a case of removing one or two to get the preload right. They are of different thickness and it is a case of try it and see. Example remove the thinnest shim replace pin and if still to loose put it...
Its called "speed wobble" because that is when it happens usually induced by a bump in the road. Loading up the drive train [accelerating] can act as a damper but is not a cure.
Have you done the swivel housing preload?
Just to close this out, I removed the cylinder head. The head gasket had lost its integrity and was allowing combustion pressure into the coolant. All fixed with a head clean up and a new gasket.
Does this mean you have not yet checked/done the swivel pin pre load since this thread was started?
Swivel pin pre load job does not need the hub removed unless pin or bush is worn.
Jack and support axle.
Remove wheel and disconnect track rod...
Are you sure you don't have this. It is just a cast slot on the back of the arm, the new ones for sale still have it (image below from an ebay ad for a new one). This allows you to put a correctly sized drill bit (do not ask me what size) into...
Lots of Landy's doing their stuff in 1965 Syfy yarn "Crack in World" about scientist who's project to use an atomic bomb to release thermal energy, of course it go's wrong. Mostly Series two hard tops to see but the Landy hero is a battered open...
