Not much to say! Been busy moving house, finally getting my own space back to work on the cars.
Got a lovely car port (just over 2 cars long, 1.5 wide) and an outdoor workshop to start with. Will eventually try and turn the carport into a...
I was only looking at these the other day. I used to have a twinscroll legacy import. One of most capable cars I’ve ever had. I’m bored with my daily and starmer has literally taken the benefit of me running it so will probably go private car...
Might I suggest that after you establish that your D1 drives reasonably well you lift the carpets back front and rear to check how good (or bad) the floors and bulkhead are. Also peel back the rear boot mat to inspect as rear floor and inner...
He's already made his bed, by buying it.
May as well advise him from here on in.
There was a post on another forum from a chap thinking about buying a range rover classic. I've been doing my best to try and convince him not to.
But the OPs...
Also, unless your particularly unlucky, it will mostly be body rust not chassis rust. YRM, Froggats easy on panels make replacements for most things. I use yrm for all my stuff now
If its been run that day, but allowed to cool, does it then start in just the same way, or better?
If "better" i would suggest it could be somthing as simple as injector leak offs. If they get holes in them you get air come in when its not...
None of you are warning the man off! You’re encouraging him to get welders, workshops and start chucking all his time and money at it 😂.
OP - If you want the body done properly, its a long old journey. I enjoy restoring them back make sure it’s...
Well if it wasn’t for the singer sowing machine sounding engine going past each morning I wouldn’t have given her a second look, beauty is in the eye of the beholder they say and in this instance … well a picture tells a thousand words
If you can weld and fabricate to a decent standard and have covered workshop facilities and your labour time is free then it's all doable. Inner wings, sills and floorpan and chassis repair panels plus materials will run to over £1000 I'd guess...
Call me daft but I don’t understand how it stops it curling. Do the screws go through the foam and into harder material underneath?
I ordered it in grey and it’s pretty close to the new grey which is a winner!!
Passed her MOT with no advisories after failing with a knackered rear suspension arm and a small hole in the sill, £400 later all fixed.
I put two Pirelli scorpions on the front thinking it was going to breeze through.
Clean bill of health for...
If you ever remove an engine. Tape up your loom. Otherwise it may dangle onto the prop when your winching and wrap itself up and rip 🤢
Resto moved to its final build place I hope.
Finished fixing dash at lunch. You can see it’s just started to curl. The repair kit is on it’s way and will be much easier without the dash in the car!
@Firebobby1 - you’re bahama beige aren’t you? Anyone else got a grey interior? I’ve just bought this just for the knob (hope 200 and 300 are same!) and the gaiter is really decent and original I think.
Got one for not mental money. People are starting to charge a lot for spares. Everything is so tidy with the dash that I can’t be doing with having a broken switch surround
Small repair at lunch. The metal bracket that holds the stereo and centre vent panel had snapped off from the dash. I managed to bolt in a bit of metal so that it could be held in place again. Eliminating potential rattles.
The plastic here...
Not much to report other than this vehicle has been excellent. It’s such motivation to finish my restoration as I really enjoy driving this. Only been driving my pickup when I’ve had to and I nearly put myself through the windscreen braking 😂. My...
The dash has been ontop of the disco. It’s been slowly turning disgusting. It will obviously need cleaning painting for the new colour scheme.
Whilst cleaning earlier I noticed an issue! Seems the yanks didn’t have the light adjuster switch we...
The vermin hole being dealt with whilst I carry on with the rest of interior bits. May be a bit boring but keeps the thread up to date with the restoration requirements.
Should be a bigger update coming to this thread next week! 👀
Leather...
The videos linked above - trailerfitter toolbox, will be so helpful for you. Loads of guides but there’s theory in them too from an old school fitter. Also look up the mike Brittania vids.
If it turns out to be the UJs don't buy cheap ones. I hate doing them with a passion, got a propshaft instead last time.
Another thing to check if you think it's from the transfer box is the output flange and bearing the prop bolts onto.
