Hi
Does anyone know what normally goes here - behind the cubby - land rover
on a Ninety - 1986? Picture attached
There is an elastic band./ strap that looks as if it should hold something. Wheel jack?
I used M4 rivnuts on my door with the card held on with stailess dome headed set screws.
I put M6 rivnuts and setcrews in each corner as well as holding the Defender handle on ...
That is literally the stuff he was referring too.... however to be fair I think the previous comments about it were maybe a little unfair, people do use it to good effect too but I feel like if you use it in the wrong circumstances it can cause...
As @Anaconda says, Wax is the final treatment not the only treatment. If the axles, and other things are rusting they need the rust removed (wire wheel or similar) treating with a rust converter/stabiliser, painting with primer (I like red oxide...
My son has ali chequer plate on his which is riveted on.
Make sure you use sound deadening pads on the inside of the door and some foam insulation. I also covered the rear of the chequer plate with a foam insulation, it made a massive difference...
Thanks guys. I've realised today that the "straps" are what is left of the handle. It must have broken off with a previous owner leaving two stubs. Before I saw your message, I ordered a s/h early defender one. I've included a link below...
Dinitrol do a clear wax you could use.
Take the rust back on the axles as much as you can, use a rust converter then paint them. You could spray with a wax if wanted afterwards.
It all needs to be very clean before applying anything though.
Don't...
😂 Thanks for this. Is there a good rust converter? Painting the axles: I thought about using Hammerite Under Body Seal which also contains Wax Oyl....
Simple solution is to use a clear wax. Even the galvanized chassis will benefit from the protection. They do corrode but just a lot slower than painted steel and a coating of wax will help keep the look you like.
Thanks. There's quite a bit of surface rust on the axles and in the wheel arches. I'll wire wheel the worst off but won't a wax let this show through - I mean will the finish be good?
Hi
I'm thinking of using Dinitrol to protect the underside of my 1986 Ninety. However, it's fitted with a galvanized chassis and I want to keep that bare as I like the look. Dinitrol seems to be mainly a spray product so, apart from doing a...
Hi
Just fitting a new door card to the tail safari door on my 1986 Ninety. Its a simple flat, plastic coated door card from LR Parts - no rear wiper. There's two captive bolts at the top with a couple of "strap" like things that look as though...
Thanks. I have noticed some chaffing of a white and green cable going to the fuel sensor. There is continuity between the white cable and the ground that runs alongside it. The white cable is energised when the engine is running - but not the...
There aren't that many earth points and the loom behind the dash is accessible. The dash is easy to remove and if it means getting better access to solve your problem then it's worth it. It sounds like a short to me though but it may not be...
200Tdi Ninety
Hi
This is a new post - hoping that someone can advise me how to systematically troubleshoot a problem I am having with my 1986 200Tdi Ninety.
Following an attempt to sort out a couple of issues........

- trying to wire up the...
Hi, yes, that's correct: the red/white relay trigger wire stays non live and the corresponding earth is live
I've taken the relay out completely and am using a jumper cable with a momentary switch across the output terminals (live cable in...
I initially thought it was the white/red cable from the ignition switch getting re-energised. However, that's not the case. The ground (black) cable is getting the juice and causing the relay to re-activate.
It's definitely re-energising. If you remember, initially I thought it was something else.belt driven, but it's definitely the starter restarting. Not a good sound to hear (or smell to smell!). Removing the relay and using the jumper solves it...
This post began with a problem with starting and has morphed into other head scratching mysteries. The problem I am now having is related to the starter circuit - but slightly different.
Just to recap, after fiddling with wires behind the...
Thanks. Sounds good. I'll go through them on that basis. I'll look for a glow plug one.... Yes, I have a fuse box cover, but it doesn't refer to the relays....
Hi
Here's the latest of my increasing number of posts ref my 1986 Ninety - 200Tdi. Oh no, not him again! 😂
So I had a reconditioned LT77 gearbox from Beaumont fitted (by a proper mechanic) in the last 2 months. All forward gears working well...
