Economic fabrication I call it and in the aircraft zone and quoted by an engineer I spoke to in the aircraft or airliner game, they call it value fabrication.
It's a question of money and budget as with everything. Although in comparison a...
Mine's never clicked in nearly ten years my mate. She's been stuck in water upto her bcem, had the usual leaks and had the connectors removed after a few years of ownership. My sons had some radio noise but all down to the corrosion in the left...
The clicking is no doubt the result of corroded connectors somewhere and nothing to do with FMEA checks that cannot possibly show the result of 20 years plus of deterioration.
Hello. Me again wishing to provide an updated account of my air bag failure experience. At the risk of attracting pitchforks at dawn and threats of being burned at the stake for P38 heresy, I asked my local LR specialist to fit a coil pack from...
Just locking it at the crank is not enough for this engine I suggest you look at LRTIME on the tube for more info about correct timing on this engine.
The main concern is how and why the timing jumped. I'm afraid that sort of failure usually ends...
Hi, not sure why the timing slipped. The belt had slight damage on the edge but no teeth missing. Tensioner was at the correct position.
I have the correct timing tools, I took out the starter and locked the crank with the crank tool and I...
How had the timing slipped? tensioner/belt etc.
How did you lock/tome the crankshaft?
Interference engine so anything less than perfect could be bad news.
Black smoke suggests it's getting fuel. Personally, I would do a compression test because if the timing slipped, there may be valve damage. You could try a squirt of Easy Start to see if it will fire.
Hi Mark, thanks a million for replying.
Yes camshaft and crankshaft turn.
I am aware that these engines are known for the crankshaft failing/braking.
Is it possible there is damage even though all are turning?
The next step and there are two options.
The first is a hack, you can spray a little break cleaner Into the air I take and see if the motor starts. If the motor turns it's not a skipped timing belt and could be something else. If it doesn't fire...
While cranking the engine, can you see the camshaft turning through the oil filler cap?
Does the crank pulley turn?
Hopefully you are aware of this engines failure points..
It'll depend on how sensitive the new tow bar kit and vehicle electrics are.
Some kits will just accept the connections to the existing light wires on the car.
More and more modern vehicles need to be programmed to change brake performance and...
Do you think there could be some of the filter jammed in there?
If you could the pressure control valve out and check for debris. Hopefully that could be the answer. Was the filter really bad then?
So another thing to mention is a battery with low voltage can throw up all sorts of faults including srs, can you check the battery voltage?
Simple fixes are worth checking beforehand and diagnostics aren’t reliable with a low battery anyhow
Any Nanocom for P38 should read the SRS system. Only the engine ECU's require unlock codes. If you want to pop up to Langley I could take a quick look. No promises on fixes though.
Most likely it's a bad connection on one of the seat...
What year is the car? As said, likely to be a bad connection, the connector under the drivers seat if it has side airbags being the common cause. Fix the fault and it will clear automatically.
So it has side airbags, check the under seat connector. If you have buttons that do not work on the steering wheel, then it may also be that the rotary coupler has failed.
Yes.
BTW, as well as one of the connectors, it could also be a bulb failure in the cluster. There's two bulbs, & if one fails the other SRS light stays on.
Took some screenshots for u of the gap iid settings ,

Indeed as mentioned here’s pats email at gap iid to confirm any questions that u may have ref automatic door locking and if it’s possible to...
GAP is about £60 to add extra VINs from memory.
Does most of what I wanted but does struggle with some things. Programming keys for one.
Also doesnt seem to read module info right on my 06 Vogue. Whether this is right or not I don't know. For...
Nanocom for edc (06?), testbook t4 or a faultmate.
There may be others that read it to certain degrees but these are ones I would trust.
Maybe someone around you will be willing to accept a day out with tea and biccies?
