There are 3 NRV's. If one is bad, best do all 3 IMO. More likely to be the diaphragm I would think. A new dryer is not that expensive.

Pull the exhaust filter from the block and put your finger over it. Make sure a door is open so the system is isolated. Hold your finger for a while and monitor any air loss👍

Change the earth strap then you have a know good one as they rot where you can not see they are a common fault, located passenger side engine mount area.

Try a jump lead from the negative battery post to engine and supply a direct earth. If you can have the starter checked over to rule it out. 🤔
