It is a shame so many folk, and not just farmers do not take basic care of their vehicles. A good clean underneath once a year and when dry a spray of preservative goes a long way. I was doing similar work on mine recently and all bolts that...
Hi there,
I’ve been lurking for some time as I’ve been looking at disco 1-2 but not really got a chance to get hands on with anything. Been fixing my own cars for 20 years, mostly French stuff, some Japanese and latterly some German.
So...
Finally sorted out the heavy steering issue. The Landy has been almost undriveable the past couple of weeks, I was worried that the PAS pump or box was on the way out. Thankfully, turned out to be a seized lower steering uj! It would move freely...
New 1.6mm ali inner wing liners cut to shape and ready to be panel bonded and rivited over the original wings to give a smooth as new finish to the inside of the tub, also bonded 2mm sheet to the original floor here it is with some weight on it...
I had mine repaired by a local diesel specialist in January. It can be done yourself but I initially thought the pump was needing replacement, hence getting it done instead of doing it myself.
The heater on my old series 3 was the best heater I’ve ever had in any vehicle! In the winter, I had to often open the window! A truck cab makes it much warmer and a headlining helps stop the condensation.
+1 for the rad muff idea.
Have you looked at LaSalle headlining? They’re much cheaper than the JLR ones (still not cheap though!) but look ok.
Edit- just seen that 90 headlining are similar to the LaSalle ones!
Another Td5 or something a bit different? A Cummins diesel or Merc OM606 perhaps? I can’t help with sourcing a Td5 but it would be a good write-up if he did fit one of the other two!
Never ends does it!
Finally been enjoying the 110 again, parked up and my mate said "whats all that red stuff coming out the bottom"
FFS 😡 Not another coolant leak!!
Quick check and the expansion cap was loose and had become soft and...
Well that is the last of the ABS saga at least for a while!
New CV & Shaft. Lights came back... 🤷♂️
New sensor in lights gone!
Funny how the sensor lasted a year to the day! But its a 2 year warranty so will be going back to Island4x4 for a...
The replacement rear tub arrived yesterday. Its like its destiny...as the colour matches the bulkhead.
The cappings were awful and have been removed...but underneath the alloy is sound.
Its not perfect and there are a few issues to resolve...
Another day of sanding, priming, sanding, priming, sanding, gravitexing, priming and now finally beer time …. Mrs Hughes is becoming more and more suspicious as I’m spending every minute in the garage and complaining that my back and wrist hurts…...
The new earth cable arrived in the post today from Devon 4x4. It was a large and quite heavy parcel for a small item, but this was due to the large catalogue that they posted with the cable! I fitted it but the chassis earth didn’t have any...
Checked all the lights ready for MOT:
- one indicator side repeater not working - just a bit manky inside - sorted.
- one front side light very dim - full of water - new bulb and sorted (for the moment).
- rear indicator very faded - replacement...
Took my TD5 out for a drive. It is now pretty much rattle free after adjusting the rear end door and passenger door.
Also the new drop arm seems to have improved the steering kick back on pot holes. I'm happy with the little improvements.
