The approach angle of the drive meant there was an interference fit between roof and garage door.
I wonder if this is a bad omen? Does the landy really want to be restored? And if not will it fight me every step?
Letting the rear tyres down...
Carpeted and fitted the seat box protectors today. Makes a huge difference to the look in the cabin, really happy with the outcome. Just need to wash the rubber mats.
I can’t recommend anyone local to you but it might be worth contacting your local Landy club. They will likely have a suggestion or two of local specialists.
Hi and welcome from Stroud!
There have been quite a few defender thefts in the Cotswolds recently so make sure you invest in lots of security measures. Otherwise, enjoy!
Got the 90 back after having the injector pump repaired. It was sent to a local specialist who said it didn’t need rebuilding but the leak was fixed so I’m happy.
Britpart roof rails and Vickywood awning all go today. The Vickywood stuff is seriously great quality I have to say. Going to get a 190 mighty oak roof tent for the summer for some camping fun with the little one.
Next thing is to get another...
Finally got the fuel tank to part company with the defender ;).
Now I can confirm what pump I need and also have to deal with 6 out of 8 bolts that had their necks rung:oops:.
Good job it runs LPG so I have time:).
Probably a good time to clean...
Not much to report other than this vehicle has been excellent. It’s such motivation to finish my restoration as I really enjoy driving this. Only been driving my pickup when I’ve had to and I nearly put myself through the windscreen braking 😂. My...
Slightly different setup as mines a Defender. When I fitted a 100 amp alternator I relocated it above the timing case and made a simple bracket with a M6 threaded rod to tension the belt.
I always give the advice for people looking at defenders that it depends what you are used to and what you are comparing it to. I do high milage in my 110, and would think nothing of doing 400miles in a day and regularly do for work. However it...
I thought it was about time I posted here since my introductory post last year:
https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/hi-new-1996-defender-90-owner.394518/
I have done the obvious stuff - check/replace/top-up fluids etc. I have swapped out the...
Sounds like you are enjoying your truck. Kids just love Landy rides. Don't forget to take care of the underside and bulkhead. A regular oiling every year has kept mine happy for many a year along with home made "Gwyn Lewis' type flaps to keep...
I can't quite make out the serial number of the gearbox, but at some point its been fitted with an R380 gearbox, and the transfer case has a serial number that indicates it started life in a Range Rover or Discovery 1. The rear axle is also not...
Drove it again today to collect 10 bales of shavings for the horses.
Best bit was the attendant says I must be using a lot of shavings as it’s the second time this week he has seen the motor..
Now found out the mrs has been using it during my...
Fitted replacement R380 with higher 5th and LT230 with ATB. Both working well, especially in the ice and snow in Northern Sweden. The main bearing was shot on the old box so it was time to sort things…. If you get a ticking noise from the gear...
How about a fixed ladder on the rear and full length tubular side steps? You could get steps that sit over the top of the wheels which might do the job.
The vermin hole being dealt with whilst I carry on with the rest of interior bits. May be a bit boring but keeps the thread up to date with the restoration requirements.
Should be a bigger update coming to this thread next week! 👀
Leather...
Looks like a great project. If you swap the chassis for a nice shiny galvy one, you know it’ll be good for a long time to come. And it looks like the great basis for an overland truck.
Let us know how you get on.
I started out with a quest to find a 90 with a 200TDI or 300TDI with a rotten chassis and bulkhead. The kind of thing that was ripe for a galvanised replacement.
After kicking a few tyres I ended up with an 1987 E reg 110 fitted with a Isuzu...
If you like the RR, keep it. A 110 is a great tow vehicle but it doesn’t have the comforts of the RR, especially if you’re towing a large caravan around the UK or further afield.
