The 1999 P38 4.6 HSE is my first Land Rover / Range Rover - acquired in March 2016 from my brother in Notts where it had sat, unused and without an MOT for almost 2 years. I knew it was going to be a bit of a "project" but it's not for daily use - I intend it for throwing dogs in the back during the winter months going to local "country sports" events. I believe I got it for a good price, knowing there were a number of issues, (including the MOT). In late March the brake light switch and the Brake & Power Steering Lines were replaced with new, (parts manufactured by friends), a broken headlamp replaced with a used part and the garage sorted out the SRS Fault light by cleaning a connector. MOT success! I bought a used centre console switch pack from Douglas Valley Breakers which revealed a window and the sun-roof needed attention. Since then I've spent a bit of time cannibalising a recent arrival P38 at my local scrap yard, including a replacement window regulator and sunroof motor which I installed easily. I bought a Headlining fabric kit from AS Trim and did that over a weekend, (messy and lots of elbow grease). I've repaired, filled, painted and polished both wing mirrors which put the rest of the paintwork into a poor light but hey, its 17 years old. I've investigated the possibilities of why the centre air vents aren't working, (relay 7 burned out, together with tell-tale melted fusebox around it!), so I retrieved a fuse box with a load of spare relays from the scrap yard "doner" vehicle only to find it was for GEMS and not Bosch engine. A new replacement is on it's way for under £130 delivered. I'm in the process of doing an oil and filter service and found the Pollen Filters black and full of leaves, twigs, small trees and other bonfire fodder. Everything else works, pretty much, and with only 122k miles on it there has to be plenty of life in the vehicle - but I know there will be more things require attention ("investment") as I use it. It's always going to be a "project".
