Take the door card off if you can enough to try pulling directly on the linkage, or the rod could have fallen off

Not a simple pull out but it is just a push fit if I remember. A lot of wriggling and tapping with needle nose pliers and screwdrivers. There’s an o-ring that seals it and it can grip quite well

Can you drive a bit with the speedo head out and the cable disconnected and watch to see if the cable is rotating?

Nobody. It gets a bit of black mould under there so I periodically clean and disinfect it, followed by a couple of fresh coats of paint. (lack of air circulation and a warm damp area).

But,…… if you’re painting under a worktop behind the washing machine, who’s going to see?
