Ah ok i was probably over reading it as well trying to think a bit out side the box.

I have never heard a pssschhh on mine there is no dump valve to make that noise unless you have a split in the pipe work from turbo to inlet manifold you should not get a noise.

He hasn't noticed that he has actually got a diesel.

There are three pumps on the l322 intank transfer one, mid one under the car and the high pressure one on the engine.

There is a transfer pump in the tank to pump from one side to the other if that has gone it can look like you have fuel but the side the pickup is in has not, open the fuel cap and have a listen for the pump running.

Dont bother trying to press the old bushes out run a drill bit through the bush a couple of times just catching the inside of plastic outer and you should be able to collapse the outer and hook them out with a screw driver.
