I just go with a decent set of pads and disks and keep the wheels clean (like hell I do) but then we mostly do longer drives with less braking so the brakes last longer where we are. I had to change the Volvo pads after 8yr because they rusted...
I'm planning on a bit of a friction refresh, front discs have a little lip on them, pads are about 1/3 left everything and looks tired so I reckon it's time for new discs, pads, parking brake shoes and a fluid change as well as a bit of a caliber...

If you like the car, get a subframe and do it or get it done. I'm a firm believer in better the devil you know. Look seriously at the cost of this repair against the cost of changing the car, what will you get for yours? What faults...

Get yourself a set of fibre loops and start unplugging the units and bypassing them. If it starts working, that one is/was your weak link. Unless it's the amplifier I think, fairly sure nothing works without that but someone will be along to...
