Tube out rigger might have a few years left. Chassis, if that is the worst then with time, effort, money you could probably slow the process. Fuel tank cradle is bolt on so not so important.
Realistically all of our chassis are rusting away...
Cheers, I've seen those before - I've done the fix a couple times previously for other people so am pretty confident of using just a new replacement switch set and adding in the wiring myself (famous last words!).
Reverse selection seems a bit...
And it never ends... the brake check light was constantly illuminated...
Both wires had corroded/snapped off the level switch that sits in the clutch/brake fluid reservoir... had to unpick the connector and solder the wires back on.
Got the car fired up.
First impressions, very positive... zero drive train slop. Need to get it off road soon for a play.
No leaks from either box yet, let's see what a few more miles do.
Got some more jobs to complete over the coming weeks...
It's probably worth noting that I wasn't able to use the TD5 spec spacer tube, the intermediate gear that arrived must've been a later type to the one that was previously in, it didn't have snap rings in it to position the bearing tracks, it had...
Neither, this thing lives in the transfer box. I've got an Ashcroft air locker in the rear diff, and a 4 pin mil diff in the front.
EDIT, just re-read and maybe I misunderstood... if so, no I'm not going to put a locker in the front axle, I...
AATB centre assembled:
Shimmed up for correct preload:
Both boxes fully assembled and ready to go back on the car:
Now for the struggle lifting them into place :D
Getting there slowly, gear set stripped off the old center diff housing, ready to go on the AATB. Just got to finish cleaning off all the other parts now, slowest part of the job to be honest.
The lower section of the gear lever that sits in the turret has really deep wear from the bias springs, about 1.5 to 2mm deep lines scored.
I've heard people have welded them up and ground them before, although I have a welder I've never used...
Got the R380 back together, pic below is just before refitting the turret.
I'll give the casing a lick of paint before it goes back on the car.
Started cleaning down the various bits of the LT230, the case has a film of brass muck where the...
They arnt difficult to remove, just requires the right technique.
Use the correct filter from a quality brand.
Smaller filter, needs changing more regularly. I change my oil and both filters every 6k.
It's an easy job, The hardest part is the 'standard' filter that is in a bit of a tight spot. The oil drain/refill and the rotor filter are easy.
I wouldn't recommend a drive thru joint because they will likely not have done an oil change on a...
Tend to disagree on this.
Adjustable dampers are from Terrafirma and a absolutely awful in terms of reliability.
RTC dampers are a gimmick at best, unreliable and crap at worst. Better off with OME or Fox if bigger tyres.
Six speed box doesnt...
Td5. Will always be my choice.
Very easy to work on, very easy to maintain, buy a Nanocom or a Just Map It from Empire to read fault codes.
They are fairly rugged compared to a Puma but 10x easier for the home mechanic.
Ive been driving them...
Insurance companies have decided they hate Defenders. Ive had the same issue.
Slightly modified and its a flat out no or a ridiculous price
Easily stolen, expensive to repair (by a garage) parts costs are high, values are hard to determine...
Completely agree. The heaters arnt actually that bad at all when the are working 100%
People are just used to modern climate control systems that are way over engineered. Im not actually a fan, i genuinely prefer the separate heater and AC in my...
I did find it terrible before I actually had a look at anything. I then found I had no thermostat fitted, replaced with a 78 degree one. I then found all the foam seals in the heater box had disintegrated, same with the dash air box, after...
What a magical day I had today 🙄
Thought it would be a fairly quick reassemble of the manifold, oh how wrong I was!
Refitted and torqued up 9 out of 10. Number 10 become righty loosey 😢😢
Stud almost fell out.
Panicking about what to do as I...
All in cost me around £4K in materials its really three builds......room within a room within a timber barn with 50mm air gap between each ( russian doll etc) Sound check with drums and PA at full chat...... 4 feet away sounds like stereo in a...
