I asked the same question when I was recommissioning my 38 around 3 yrs ago. The only plausible explanation is to help against vibration fractures but ...not convinced. I made exact copies anyway just in case.

So the next job began today to change the rear brake pipes from the calliper hoses along with the hoses , pads and discs. Whilst attempting to fabricate replacements for the rear pipes I wondered why they are such a complex shape with tight...
Had the hose and extension lead out for mixing cement, when I finished that job, as the sun is shining today I jet washed the mud & mold off both P38's. They are not clean, just a good deal less dirty.
