Hi Folks,

Recently my 2000 disco II has been acting odd. After 80K miles it has worked well, but when cold, I put it in reverse and it sits for 5-6 seconds and then proceeds to crawl, slowly at first and then faster.

I took it in for service and mentioned it to the mechanic and he drained the transmission and re-filled it with new fluid. I picked it up from his shop that night and there was a noticable lag in the forward gears. Once out of the parking lot, the engine would rev and then shift gears.

Now the mechanic is telling me that I need to replace the unit with a rebuilt....

Any advice before I end up sinking a couple $K into it?

Thanks,

Doug (muddy_hollow)

Before any big moves, have you checked the filter screen? If blocked it may give probs like yours.mucky`un.

Hi do your gear selection lights sit in the correct position have you tried manual selection is it the same gearbox filter should be done about every 24k,do you ever get the m&s lights flashing or F3 flashing in instument pack, there is a speed sensor in the gearbox which can play up easy to get to when sump on box removed also on the filter is 2 "O" rings which goes on the filter as well if these perish it wont pick up oil very well so you will need to check this as well and the obvious is has the gearbox been filled up correctly as these will give poor gear selection and hardly any pulling away power till a bit warmer hope this helps tiga.
