Hiya,

Noticed the drive being spotted with this week, assumed it was Air con condensate stuff, had a look underneath on Friday, Lots of oil covering the rollbar type thingy under and oil over the Engine tray - convenient little hole to let the oil drip through! Looked at the IRD a suspect amount of oil from the prop drive output on the IRD...Hmmm

Got 2 Weeks of warranty left, in the garage today while they investigate.

Before I get fobbed off anyone let me know if this is a common fault?
IS The IRD fixable, lost of cases of IRD's failing because of duff VCU's

VCU pans out okay on the line check, although could the VCU failiure be intermittent?

Cheers,

IRD leaks are common, they usually leak from 2 places and thats the casing by the driveshaft and the casing where the propshaft output flange is.

IRD only holds a small amount of oil, something like 1 1/2 litres so any leaks should be sorted ASAP. The first thing to suffer from oil starvation is the prop output shaft bearing.

I have the same leaking from the same place

This is now promoted to Number 1 worry (no warranty)

Looks like the sump cover is coming off again tomorrow and some top up oil to buy

How long does it take to remove the IRD roughly

Okay,

Oil leak traced to sump plug seal.

MAF replaced under warranty also.

Slightly ****ed because I fitted some side steps last week and they lifted the car on the mounts !! Bending the mounting brackets and stuffing the tread plates into the sills! ARGH!

Have you complained to them about this? They are responsible (and should be insured) for negligent damage to customer's cars. They should cough up for any repairs.

Cheers
