Have read in some landy mag that extreme terrain tyres are soon to become unavailable either by cessation of production or by law , anybody know anything about this ?????????:eek::eek:

simex without the "E" mark or whatever it is will be illegal soon, if not already.

Most "Extreme" tyres will follow suit im told.

There worth lots of money now if you have a set. :)

Would this cover the insa special tracks?

Last i heard no. because there re moulds. BUT i have been away from home and land rovers for a while now so im not that upto date.

The people on ere to ask would be: 90boy, 200tdistu and jonboy. They all run them so will be able to better advise. :)

The mag aticle said remoulds like insa`s would still be availible untill 2015 and that companies were stocking up ( no doubt to ram the prices up)

dont worry :D

From November 2012, a new law from the EU compels all new tyres sold to carry information that grades wet braking, rolling resistance and noise levels, using a picture system similar to that already used when buying electrical equipment such as fridges.

Tyre manufacturers will have to ensure the information is supplied with every new tyre that leaves the factory while retailers will also have to make sure the customer is shown the information before sale.

It mentions nothing about tyres currently fitted

the new tyre labelling does not apply to re-tread tyres and larger size tyres or cars made before 1980

thanks for that 200tdistu. :D

oops, sorry pal. 300tdistu.

So you know where it says bigger tyres in yam post? how big exactly?

And am i right in saying its just the Extreme tyres? muds and AT's will most likely have a rating as there a road going tyre right?

A far as I know, and this was told to me by a tyre dealer, these regulations refer to NEW tyres, not remoulds.

Thats one of the reason BFG and General Grabber changed their tread pattern, but you can still get the "old" BFG mud pattern as a remould from Insa-Turbo.

I may be wrong... It's happened before (a lot!)

it appears to indicate that 'off road professional tyres' are excluded

But only when used off road probably, so bless tailoring would still need road legal tyres.

No

I have seen this in Lro and you saying they are banning them for the road noise but the performance of the tyre in adver conditions as well?

Surly it's the drivers responsibility to use his head to work out what's safe n what's just been stupid,

I used to run a road legal track car on yoko a048 there's are a road legal slick, grips like no other tyre (besides Toyo r888 the same tread pattern) but if it rained then you might have well been driving on ice. So are they going to ban these as well?

There must be some human rights law against banning tyres that have been made for years, why should simex looses sales just cause to tool in an office doesn't under stand the joy of off roading.

Tyres that make too much noise as determined by the EU, will have an extra tax/penalty imposed on them from November 2012.[3]
