hi can i wire my midland 98cb into my interior light and power it from here or have i got to wire it into its own fuse i dont use the light

put a separate fuse in it and make sure it is earthed separately. It will, of course be permanently live - so remember to turn it off - or else flat battery.

Sorry to disagree here.............

I personally would run a new fused live supply, i wouldn't use the supply to the interior light, i doubt the wire size is current rated to run the higher draw from the CB.

Find a good earthing point on the body and use that as your negative that way your only running one new wire.

Its not a big job and its best to be safe than sorry!!!

cheers martin bird was looking for lazy way but thought bugger it will try do it properly not great with stuff like this so thought would ask,i have a midland 98 plus two wires at the back one is red so must be the live the other is neutral or earth but dont know which

If its a disco - check in the side of the drivers footwell - yu mite find a couple of spare relays that arent being used - if any of them go live with the ignition - yu can take a spur orf from that....

tbh daft i would have thought it would be ok on the interior light circuit,
surley a std cb dont take that much power.

i think yu are correct - but offhand dont know wot fuse the interior light has - check it first - if its 5A or so - shud be ok - but still fuse the CB separately. One thing tho - as I mentioned before - the good (and bad) bit about using the interior light circuit is that it is PERMANENTLY live - good thing - coz otherwise your CB will reset to its default channel every time you turn it off - bad thing - coz you wouldn't be the first to leave it on and drain the battery. ALWAYS separately fuse the CB - 3A? fuse.

like i say dont know very much bout electrically stuff ,the wires at back of cb obviousley red is live what is the black and red one and the light its self thats live on both terminals innit.so if i put a fused cable onto either light connection and put the black and red wire to the body work will it do it still might tek it down to the driver footwell etc which is easiest for a dumb ass like me

Right mate, ignore me and use the interior light wiring, it should take the 4amp max that the CB is gonna pull, its just not the way i would do it.............

Enough of that here's some answers.......

The interior light will have a permanent live feed to it! Find it with a test lamp or multimeter.

You will need to pick up a decent earth from the bodywork, one of the interior light mounting screw's if their to metal should be ok if they are to the plastic shelf then there no good. The switch may have permantly one position the earth pick up point for this will do the trick.

As for the black and red wire.........

Does t not say on the CB or in the instructions............

It could be memory back up, ignition supply, dimming with headlamps on........

I just dont know you may have to look up the maker.........

Hope this helps ;)

cheers mate big help that, got it second hand will have look on internet to see what the black and reds for i know it will blow my mind but just out of interest how would you do it ive mounted the unit up on the plastic where the sunroof controls should be no sunroofs so nice neat tidy job up there

I would just run a new supply thats all i ment......

Good luck anyways!!!! ;)

I googled your CB and it came back with 1.1 amps! As already pointed out, the interior light supply will be OK however, as also pointed out the radio could be left on by mistake.

I have heard of a mini cab driver having his car trashed because he kept someone up all night after leaving his two way on.............food for thought?

regards

Dave

i got mine spurred of the interior light on my 300, there is an earth point behind the light in the roof, fidley but not impossible to get to.
Ariel cable can be run in the roof inside the roof lining to the A pillar easy enough to thread trough without having to drop the headlining.
