Hi guys went out this morning in my Defender td5 got half way to work when I put the wipers on and they didn’t move... after about 10 mins I tried again and they moved about 10cm and then have stopped there and won’t move... any ideas where to start looking?

did yu lift the blades and try them before you set off?

At this time of year its very common..... wipers frozen to the screen..... turn the wipers on and it shears the drive. If so - new wiper motor mechanism.

There not making any horrible noises... I will admit though when I defrosted this morning using Luke warm water I went to use the wipers but nothing happened? If something sheared would I of heArd it happen? Both wipers move together

but you can hear motor working ?

Thanks guys I’ll check the fuses in the morning and let you know the outcome have a feeling it’s something more than that though

Same thing happened to my old astra today. intermitant stopped going to park. just went along screen in small movements then all movement stopped. fuses blowing now went switched on. Interesting driving in the ****ing rain/snow with no wipers.

Mine kept blowing the fuse at random. Also, when switching off the blades stopped where they were so I had to time the switch off carefully :D
Anyway, replaced the park switch (attaches to the wiper motor for less than a tenner) and it's been fine ever since.
Sounds like you have trouble with the mech somewhere though mate..

Right peoples went out this morning and pulled the wipers up and moved them about... went into the landy and low and behold there working again!!! Drove all the way to Exeter and there fine now.., it was bloody cold yesterday so maybe that didn’t help... Is there anywhere I can lube it all up?

There's a How-to on wipers and wheelboxes around somewhere @The Mad Hat Man may know ...
Failing that squirt with Water Dispersant 40 and lube with spray grease till someone tells you proper like ...

Where the spindels go through the bulkhead is often a stiff spot especialy if the littlle rubber boots have gone rotten

Give 'em a wiggle, they should start working. I have the same issue, got a new park switch to fit as mine seems to be none weather dependent.
