Hello all,

I am intending on removing the drivers side front wing to replace the inner wing and give everywhere a good old rustproofing too.

Does anyone have any experience of wing removal and any tips or things to watch out for? Or is there anywhere online that has a good step by step guide?

Many Thanks

Both wings are the same.

Remove the inner plastic cover, screws etc are plain to see. Then there are four or five 10mm bolts which you can see if you open the door and look towards the wing. Once these are undone you can then unscrew the large Phillips head screws along the top edge and a small 8mm bolt by the bonnet hinge.

Obviously you will need to remove the indicators and the repeaters.

The wings are normally held on with sealant so they need a good tug. All in all about 5mins is all it takes.

When replacing your wing, make sure you fit fibre washers between the wing & inner wing to stop the Ally to steel corrosion. We had to fit these in production.

Thank you.

Do you mean using fibre washers with the bolts and screws that hold it on?

Yes on the bolts along the top rail, I think I remember we started using them on the introduction of the 300.

The original sealant was a strip off a roll which was quite solid, but sort of a plasticine texture. May get it from a Motor factors. Or substitute it with something similar

I remember my old 200 had corroded at every screw along the top of the wing and the 300 is still mint but had never thought about it before

To be honest ,I wonder if its worthwhile bolting an an anode somewhwrw underneath the car as on boats ro help stop the corrosion. But I aint clued up on auto electrics at all.

Tiger seal is the best by far, however you can get a descent sealant from fleabay call Fulva I think. Don't mix it with Vulva as that's a different type of sticky situation.

Ever wondered why Volvo sounds so like vulva? Well when you open the doors you'll find a c**t inside....

Ahem. Sorry.

If you use tiger seal don't you risk ripping half the inner wing off next time you remove the outer wing?

as a former vovo driver i strongly object to that first statement:D (even if it is true):eek::eek:

Making jokes about volvo drivers is a bit like making jokes about skoda drivers these days... funny until an octavia vrs pulls you over and two coneheads ask to see your licence....
