I priced up having a windscreen fitted to my 97' 300 tdi Disco today, not insurance job, me paying.
Auto glass,me having to take the car to them they would do me a ''good deal'' take all day 535 pounds :eek::eek:
Next National windscreens same deal with me having to take it to them, take all day, 160 pounds plus vat
A small independent just a mile from me I didn't even know about, they come to me and need 24hours notice to fit next day 140 pounds :)
Auto glass national company, working with insurance companies,no wonder our insurance premiums are so high, the one guy said they work on the 1 in 10 principal, 1 customer in every 10 buys, happy days for them...

The Bird has a crack in her Celica windscreen. It's covered by the insurance, but the trouble is she's got some corrosion on the pillars that needs sorting while the windscreen's out.

Don't spose the insurance type jobs would remove it one day and then come back and fit the replacement another, would they?

Nah doubt it very much, thats two call outs.

You could poss arrange to take it to autoglass rather than a call out.. then the guys in the store might be more accommodating

Hubbys besty mate had some corrosion on the top of the windscreen of his 300 TDi making it leak like a bastid they fixed it in the workshop before refitting a new screen.

Nice job too.

Trouble is, I'd have to get it to the bodywork peeps as well.

I think we'll just have to bite the bullet and pay for it to be done ourselves. Trouble is, it'll cost more than the car's worth. But she loves it so what can you do!?

My Disco 2 had corrosion above the front windscreen which was annoying me, the windscreen has a small crack which passed an MOT for 2 years, as the rust was bugging me I decided to have it fixed. The garage wanted £90 for someone to take the screen out and put it back in afterwards but also wanted me to sign a disclaimer in case the screen broke on removal.

Spoke to National Windscreens, paid my £70 excess and they attended at the garage on my chosen day removed the screen and then I had the garage phone them when the rust had been treated and sprayed and they went back and fitted the new screen.

I did volunteer that the garage could remove the windscreen but they were fine to make 2 visits and only for my £70

That sounds exactly what we're after. Her specialist pretty much said the same thing (ie that the windscreen would probably break when they remove it). And this was done through your insurance? Did you just deal with National Windscreens, or did you have to speak to the insurers as well?

Car glass fitters can spend more than half their working lives in bodyshops, it's good regular work and most will bend over backwardfs to keep a bodyshop account. Talk to the bodyshop, find out who they use then see if they will bill your insurer directly.

I'll do that. Cheers for that.

Popped into my local branch of National and spoke to them the week before the Disco had surgery and phoned them later to arrange date. No contact with the insurance company. I'm fully comp, didn't even have to show insurance certificate, just stated company with and they did the rest.
1st class service.
