Hello everyone, I want to tint the back windows on my county for privacy reasons, when it comes to window tinting i do not have a clue, im just wondering how other people have managed to do theirs or can shed a little info please?
I made card templates first then cut the film to these, it not that hard as the defender windows are flat and easy to work on. There are quite a few videos on you tube showing how to apply the film to the glass which are very helpful.

Hi, Jamie, I am interested in this one also. I have tried a blackout plastic film type roll which does the job but does not look very good. Keeps peeling away at the edges and a bugger to get the air pockets out. I remember back in the late 60's you could get a type of paint but I can't find it anywhere. with that you had to make sure it was spread evenly otherwise you could see the patches.

its pretty easy. Watch some videos on youtube. Clean the window inside and out a few times.
wet outside with soapy water. Lay sheet on outside. Cut with scalpel
wet inside, remove cover sheet, place on, wiggle into place then squeegee bubbles out from centre.
You can put nail Polish around edges to prevent any lifting.
Just take it slowly and do it inside or on very still day.

Hiya - my other half wants me to sandblast a design into the rear side windows of our 90. This is not a problem as I am a glass artist. However does anyone know where I can get untoughened defender windows from??? if youtry sandblasting toughened glass...it shatters. Or should I just cut the relevant glass cut to size and then get in laminated afterwards?????

In my experience i would not bother doing it myself anymore.
It cheap enough to pay someone to do it instead when you compare it to the price of the film. The cheap film is often thin and a dye type of tint fairly hard to apply even to the experts. The stuff the professionals use is much thicker and metal based. you tend to get what you pay for. We often have the guys coming into work to tint brand new vehicles and i have grabbed off cuts off them to fix up items like the dash warning light display.

I am looking at this in the near future as well, you can buy a full kit from eBay and put the pre-cut film on yourself.
My only qualm would be spending the 50 quid and ballsing it up
I've had a quote from cappuccino tints in leeds to do the two side rear windows, rear door window and the quarter windows for £175 which i don't think is bad really, and i have used them before so know they do a decent job.

I think you can tell the difference between a professional job and a DIY job, generally one will have more bubbles than an Aero! Had 2 previous car's done professionally and superb job done so well worth the money...

depends what ya truck looks like..
if its a rugged old bugger, then the cheap stuff doesn't look too bad, just fits in with the rest of the landy..
my old 90 was all black and dented and the bubbles windows actually added to effect "rather liked it"

Buy an application kit. And spray a washing up liquid/ water mix on window makes it easier. Removing the glass is best and you can't clean enough!
