having looked in the books I am a little confused over how to remove the glass from the front wind screen bar hitting it with a hammer any ideas Please

Take the screws out of the retaining strips then gently apply pressure if it is in with the original rubber strip .
Might also be worth cutting around it in case mastic has been used.

Might be toughened and not laminated. Gentle even pressure best- piece of wood to apply pressure. Mine came out easily but the replacements won't because I used Sikaflex.
