Searched the posts but not managed to find an answer yet so here goes:

Got standard steels on my 2008 90 with Mitchelin 205/80/16 tyres from new

Starting to think about putting some decent tyres on now the old ones are getting low and they've never been much cop on anything other than a dry field.

As mine is a farm vehicle doing 50/50 motorway towing to field and track work I'm thinking wider wheels with BFG ATs (or good alternative) is the best way to make it better in the mud without my fuel bills shooting up too much and loosing the road manners.

Ideally want some plain steel modulars or preferably cheaper discovery steel wheels that can have a bit of paint chucked at them now and again to keep them half tidy, but don't know what widths I need?

I think my tyres are the smaller option at 205/80/16 so got the impression 235/85/16 are a decent common size that won't need any clearances checking?

What width are my standard steels? 6...6.5"?

What width will I need for the 235/85s to handle well....7"?

Are all the cheap disco steels on ebay 7" or are they no bigger than the 90 steels?

Any advice much apreciated.

235/85's will go straight on no fuss. Disco rims are ok, but won't have the best offset compared to aftermarket rims.

At full lock you might get slight rubbing on the radius arm with the Disco rims and less likely on greater offset aftermarket rims. Not a problem though, either don't turn the wheel so much or wind the steering stops out a bit.

If you want to stick LR I'd look for some 1 Ton rims, they look like normal Landy rims but are wider. You can pick them up used for £25-30/rim.

Either that or go for 8 spokes/modulars.

Other easy fit tyre sizes are:

31.10.50R15 if you want to go for 15" rims
265/75R16 - about the same height as the 235's but a bit more chunky
7.50's - depending on who makes them, but normally similar height to the 235's but should be a bit narrower

As for type of tyre. AT's are ok, the BFG's are quite aggressive for an AT although I never found them great on the road.

AT2's are popular, but I'm not sure if you can still get them.

Personally I'd opt for some MT's, they often have only little affect on on road ability, but much better off it. Look a lot better too.

Value for money you'd struggle to better the Kumho KL-71's.

BFG M/T's are good, but more money, I'd probably opt for the Kumho's myself.

Thanks a lot for that.

Might be tempted by some mud terains if not to overboard.

What are the Kumhos like for wear.
I was told that BFGs last a lot longer than the cheaper brands so work out better value in the long run?

Also any idea what rim width my standard wheels are so I can compare any others I see.
