i have a 98 300tdi ES 5 door and i reckon for the best part of 2 years the rear windows havnt worked on either switch , door or centre console . and its just starting to annoy me . where does it go wrong ? i have time off over Xmas and have time to fix it (and escape the wife !)

Its a dry solder joint on the PCB in the window ecu - do a search loads of info on it - very easy to fix too if you have a soldering iron ;)
 
Do a search...its one little blob of solder that needs renewing ....same thing happened to me !.. You've got to take glove box out as unit is behind it.... Whole job took an hour..start to finish .rear windows work just fine now . If you need more detailed advice .....mail me johnwalton36@gmail.com ...
 
I thought i had this problem too so tried to remove the ecu, but could önly get one connector off, sa put back together for another day. But 2 weeks ago i pressed the rear switch by mistake, and the rear went, down, triee all the rear window switches, and all working again. Self fixing car? Or bad connection on the ecu plug? You decide. :)
