I see there are a number of second hand LRs that are painted white - is it a real drag to get them re-painted, and what might the cost be? I like the dark blue best of all.

How long might the car be unavailable if it is being repainted?

It all depends on what type of finish you are after and how far you want to go.
Do you want a quick blow-over where they mask up the lights & windows and then spay the outer panels so when you open a door or the bonnet the old colour jumps out at you or do you want to go the other way where you get 100% coverage so you can't see a trace of the old colour?


When I was rebuilding my 90 I replaced every panel (bonnet, wings, front-panel, bulkhead, doors, tunnel, seat-box, rear tub, cappings, tailgate, windscreen-frame, spats etc) for either new or new/take-off items so I had a mixture of bare metal, primer & factory finish paint. I took all the panels down to the spray-shop and had every surface of every panel painted so that when it went together only the correct colour was seen.
The result was excelent but it was a lot of work and I think the spray-shop realised they had quoted too low (ever seen a completely dismantled LR?).
 
I read a pretty damning piece on the net by a chap in Denmark, who, altough he hardly had any criticism of his 90, was in utter despair at the quality of the paint finish (and on some other items too, such as that cross member at the rear).

This has me a bit worried, but if the paint could be applied to such a high standard by a pro paint shop, could this rust grief be avoided?
