Hi All

Whenever I start up my 3.5 V8 engined trialler I get a lot of white smoke out of the exhaust and it hangs around until it has warmed up, should I be worried?

Cheers

is it steam? if so, no problem.

if its bluey white then it indicates oil problems.

sniff it, if you can a wet face its steam, if it smells its oil.

I also get this? Can it still be steam if say you start it in the morning and go for a drive leave it an hour or two and start it again I have White smoke again? It only lasts for 30 sec

you get steam when its cold outside and the exhuast is cold.

exhaust cools the water vapour that gets produced in the cylinder, and converts it into steam.

when the exhaust warms up the water vapour doesnt cool, so it doesnt get condensed, so it comes out the choob as vapor.

steam is visible, vapour is not.

i get lots and lots of steam whenever its cool and the exhaust is cold, but my engine is fine.

so yes sible, yours is probably the same.

and im pretty sure they all will be.

you got problems if the steam carries on when the motor's warm.

Piece white paper about 4 inch away from zorst if lots of black ****e on paper, oil, usualy valve seals, if ingin is early these where SUPER****, and where lunch after, ohhh about 3 miles...

Not to worry to much, have you got a oil press guage?

The more steam the healthier the engine I find, the V8 in my 110 used to pump it out when cold and that was a new engine:)

this will be same type fitted to my 74 ish 3.5 v8. so its not worth changing them then? does it only burn oil at tickover when cold if these are bollixed?

Yeah does leak all the time, but when engine is turned off, oil leak accumulates and throws a load at cylinder on start up, hence more on start up....
