Hello

I have noticed a noise which is not unlike screeching fireworks when I take my foot of the accelerator ( coasting ), it seems to happen when the engine is cold and goes away after a few miles. sometimes its worse than others. Could it have anything to do with the turbo ? . Any advice would be appreciated

Hard to say, turbo bearings dont usualy sound like fireworks but logic says you would hear them more as they run down than up as the noise wont be masked by the revs.

Have you tried manually accelerating the engine, pulling on the throttle cable, while the bonnet is up and listening to where the sound comes from?If you still think its the turbo after that, check for leaks around the oil supply to the unit, then check that the supply pipe is clear.

Most of my whistles and squeals have been water pumps (so far!!) but Id be interested to hear what thoughts people have as one of my 300 autos is developing a whistle.

Thanks for the replies
I have had my head under the bonnet but can not repeat the problem,
and I cannot hear anything form the manifold area ?

cheers
