Hi All,
Ex Disco owner now has 2004 freelander.
I notice a strange noise which kicks in about a minute after startup, could be a pump or similar, but noise lasts about another minute then goes off.
Also notice this noise after turning engine off after a short run, this is followed by a burst of steam coming out near the nearside front wheel!!
Any ideas what this noise is, or where steam is coming from??

Cheers
Ken.

Fuel Burning Heater. It's a pre heating thing which is supposed to pre-heat the coolant to warm the engine up more quickly and save fuel however it uses fuel to do this. (Work out that logic) so although it's a bit gimmicky its there. Only tends to kick in during colder weather which is usually from September to May!! You get used to it. It can be disabled by pulling a fuse under the bonnet if you like (number 5??).

Next time it does it have a sniff of the 'steam' - its actually raw diesel being burnt so don't get too close.

OK got it now 'Fuel Burning Heater' will have a check & see if i can see this exhaust pipe,

thnx to all for the tips, will take a better look & search more deeply b4 posting any other silly quetions!! excuse me but failry new back to this forum!!

Cheers
