Cheers all,
have found an ad for a 3.9EFI for 175 quid and thought about leaving me 2.25 petrol as spare, just in case (or while I overhaul it).
Now, I know the 3.5 carb version goes "straight in", with an adaptor plate as I understand, but how about 3.9EFI? Are all V8 the same size or will I encounter problems with later V8s?
Specs are:
Series 3 1978
109", single circuit brakes
electric fan
\\ so should be no problem for a V8-conversion, but I really wouldn't like to move the rad or something drastic like that

Thanks,
Phil

I'm not into conversions but I know that the stage-one V8 had the rad moved forwards but that could have been because of the RR transmission it was equipped with. Both that model (& the 6 cyl 109) had larger brake drums & bear in mind that the V8 used was a detuned version with only 91 horses.

I have just replace my 3.5 with a 3.9 with no physical issues at all.

From what I can see they are the same.

Do not forget the basic rule - bigger engines are better - it's the law.

you will end up with exhaust clearance issues and bulkhead clearance issues when fitting a V8 to a series

yes, but that is why you end up modifying the bulkhead...

thanks for the answers, cheers

The 3.5 and 3.9L are the same block so no probs there, the only thing that might cause you trouble is the waterpump,on the 3.9 it's got a viscous fan that sticks out loads,so on a series it hits the radiator! But all you do is fit one off a rover p6 3.5 V8(it's about 4inch shorter)so you can keep the rad where it belongs.Rimmer brothers were the cheapest I found. Hope this helps
