IF i was thinking of fitting a V8 engine and auto box into my offroad defender which engine would be the best:D:D and what other bits and bobs would i need? at present i have a 300tdi engine:doh::doh:

any advice from the V8 men out there:confused::confused::confused:

many thanks

am not a v8 man but ad go for money no object 4.8 acr automotive or on a budget a 4.6 gems engine or 4.2 lse but haven't got a clue on wot thay run like day to day but do sound nice :D

Go 3.5 nice and basic with plenty of power. been around forever in not just land rovers so getting spares shouldn't be a problem.
However if i was building an off roader with a good budget i would scrap the rover engine for a larger chev motor like the 350 with a turbo 350 trans
you can buy conversions kits to mate to the disco transfer case. Then you can throw any power at it until your axles or diff break

Depends what you want to achieve.
First off I`d stick with a Land Rover product.
For an off roader and assuming out and out speed is not a priority, I`d keep to basics - 3.5 carburetted keeps things simple, if you are going to go fuel injected then 3.5 or 3.9. I have a 4.2, they were developed by Jon Eales to give the magic 200 bhp and it is a fantastic engine but I wouldn`t want to break down in the back end of beyond (and because there are fewer around they are more expensive to buy.)
To be honest you could always put a basic 3.5 in and then upgrade at a later date ?
