if you take alternator off there will prob be a manufacturer and part no i would have thought

The 4.6 is usually coil packed due to the later GEMS distributorless engine management, and the 4.6 is a crossbolted strengthened block. The 4.6 is a serpentine engine with one long poly belt running all the ancillaries. The oil pump on the front is different as well.

It is possible to change timing cases and run 4.6 on distributor-engine number should confirm what it is
It is, but I'd expect paperwork to show this has been done by someone who knows what they are doing.
Freddie - 46D stamped there is the sign you have a 4.6 block.

why not take it off and match it up a good auto lec should be able to tell you or part numbers on alternater would????????

he would have fitted stripped 4.6 and used front cover and ancillaries of the 4.2
