Hello all, this is Maurizio from Rome, Italy.
I was hunting for a Discovery 2 facelift TD5, and thought I had found the ideal car...
...'auto box, 135bhp, only 70K miles, leather etc., really pristine...
...until I came across an ad for an early Discovery 2 with the 4.0 V8 petrol!
Hmmm... as the TD5 is Euro3 emissions compliant, I cannot go downtown in it, but the petrol V8 can be converted to LPG !
(actually, as of this year, diesels can be converted, too, but they are not acknowledged as "compliant")
By the way, +/- same mileage and same price too.
And I wouldn't certainly shy away from the extra bhp!
(but just how thirsty is the 4.0 V8?)
And I thought I was a happy man, until I stumbled into her...
(background music "She" by Elvis Costello)
Range Rover S.IV with a 3.6 litre V8 Turbodiesel...!
I climbed inside, it was like being in my old Daimler once again!
Leather, veneer, more leather, more veneer, and pneumatic suspension on all 4 wheels!
Same price as the two Discos, maybe a tad less.
...and the whoosh of the V8! (yes, it's a TD, but it's still a V8!)
Problem... just how reliable is the electronics on a 10-15 y.o. Range Rover?
I like the Discovery 2 because there's very little of it (and two live axles).
And I'm sure I could tune the 4.0 petrol V8 to my liking.
But that Range Rover...
Or... should I play it safe and stick to the original TD5 auto...?
I'm in no hurry and plan to buy "a" car in october.
N.B. all three cars are sold by dealers.
