I am currently rebuilding a 1989 2.5td 90 and would like to know which are the best oils to use for the:
-Axles and diffs
-Swivels
-transfer box
-gearbox
-and engine

Also where do you guys buy your oils from? As Halfords only do most oils in 1litre bottles which when buying alot works out to be quite expensive.

They actually do oils in 4 ltrs but i still wouldnt buy from them, robbing bastids..local agri supplier cheap and cheerful.

motor factors ,ep 90 or equivalent for diffs swivels and t/box ,atf dexron 2 or 3 gearbox ,good trade fleet 15w 40

Did I read this right that dextrin ATF is recommended for manual gearboxes?
Apologies if I've missed the auto reference.

dexron 2 or 3 atf is more than adequate you can use mtf94 if spending more makes you feel like youve done more,it is same oil as automatic transmissions and power steering, but change regulary in my experience most i fix havent been

Looking at my manuals, ATF is indeed recommended...but only for the 5 speed boxes.
The 4 speed one says ep90. Do people use ATF in the 4 speed boxes?

series 3 4speed box ep90 lt95 v8 4speed engine oil 15w40 lt95 v8 5speed 15w40 ,lt77 and r380 4 cylinder 5 cylinder and v8 atf or mtf
