Two old tractors I have just serviced took 15/30, I said are you sure? seems awfully thin for an old clunker, from what I could gather same oil was in engine and rear end and hydraulics.

yep, that is the same with the major, original book spec is S.A.E. 30 H.D in engine, gearbox, and rear end (also the hydraulics on a major). Although there is a school of thought to use modern multi grade oils as you can still get HD30 I run that.
