can anyone tell me the best performance exhaust to use on my 3.5 v8 efi, (1987). also had performance cam fitted ,should the timeing be advanced a few degs, as she feels abit slugish.the mechanic who fitted it said that he had advanced it by 2degs, is this enough, thanks.......

Rimmer brothers stainless sports exhaust is excelent and sounds great, it will last for ever. I have had one fitted to my 3.5 for over ten years and is still as good as new.

Here's hoping the Rimmer brothers one i am putting on today on my 3.9 will sound just as good;)

Hello Uncle,

Your RR will be similar in performance to my SD1 so the article I wrote about SD1 exhaust system "choice" may be of interest to you.

The bottom line is that a (SS) sports exhaust system does not generate more horsepower but it may mitigate some of the losses caused by a more conservative system.

More (or better) noise does not necessarily translate to performance improvement either.

For example a big bore, thin metal, SS system with minimal silencing will be really noisy and sound fantastic (except to the natives) but it has less ability to retain heat (which is good) and may not deal properly with the pressure waves and the resulting back pressure (which can be desirable).

Read the article and see how it explains the what, why, and how of exhaust systems as they relate to the Rover SD1 V8 engine, and hopefully an appreciation of the science will help you with your decision.

mate of mine has got a 3.5 efi and his done the timing by 3 degreess.he reckons that makes the back sit down a bit!

thanks, i will look them up, sounds like what i'm loking for . as for the timing, hopfully geting it fixed on monday. also noticed leek on injectors i think that this part of the reason for being slugish {low fuel presure}and thank's ramon for the info on exhausts.
