I have a 90 turbo diesel registered in 1988 I have looked at the haynes manual for the location of the engine numbers but could not find any. My mate has a 90 same age but his engine is different he says its a 200tdi but another mate says its not, I have no idea what engine is in mine but it would be useful to know!!!!
I have taken some pictures, can anyone shed any light please.

No idea, Can I take it gentlemen that the general thinking this is a 200 tdi ? if so is this a good thing or have I got a lemon

Yep 200tdi engine is brill in a defender. Better then a 19j by miles. Plus thats a defender 200tdi so is worth twice as much as a disco 200tdi.;)

if they are not visable then there are dubious reasons why.
there are no reasons for numbers to be removed other than they are nicked..
are the chassis numbers evident???
 
Yes as are numbers on the axles etc
vehicle was hpi ok everything looks as it should including the vin plate
