Hello people, i am just after some opinions regarding 110 engines please.
I am currently in between landrovers (have had 2 discos) and i can't stand my 'normal' car anymore. I really want a 110/defender 110 sw and am looking to spend £2500 - £4000. I only do 2 or 3 thousand miles a year but am looking at caravans aswell so fuel consumption is fairly important.
I have basic mechanical skills and enjoy doing my own servicing.
I like the v8 noise but one of they would have to be converted to lpg and i'm not sure about that, i don't like the idea of a gas tank behind the kids seats. I know the basics of the tdi engines but find the earlier diesels appealing, but don't know if an old one would pull a 1500kg caravan?

Is it just personal preference or is there an engine for me?

Any other general 110 buying advice would also be much appreciated

200Tdi engined 110CSW will tow all day long, 3-4k will get you a good one
2k ones will be pre Tdi diesels and I wouldn't touch them with a very long barge pole.
do the usual checks on chassis and outriggers, doors will probably be starting to rot (it's something you have to learn to live with unless you are good with a welder as decent second hand ones will set you back £200 each).
mileage is not so important as service history, if there are no service records, does the vehicle appear looked after? drive it through all the gears low box as well and try the diff lock, if you'r happy driving it then it's probably OK.:)
