My defenders chassis needs quite a lot of welding to get it back on the road and I would like to have a go at it myself, but Im not sure where to get decent sheet steel. All I've worked on before is rusty crap which has been laying round my dads farm.

The landy is in Kent so if anyone knows a good local supplier that would be useful but in general where to people buy their steel?

Local fabricators will usually let you rummage through their bin for the price of a pint or two

Ditto above, find a local engineering company. I use a local family run company, I can buy off cuts for next to nothing for beer tokens

I just called into a local commercial body shop place and got some for the price of a pint, have a look on google for anything similar near you and just knock on the door

lancaster and winter in bradford, 34 quid plus vat for 8x4 sheet, 16 guage.
