I just took delivery of a S2a 109. bit rough but to renovate next year. They left with pound notes.
I tried over drive but no engagement, when I looked underneath- NO OVERDRIVE.
nice gear lever but no 'box. am I unreasonable to expect a gearbox to be attached to the lever?
help!

Looks like you have paid for life experience, and invaluable lesson you will always learn from. I suspect small claims court might be the way forward, anyone?

Might help if you explain the type of purchase and the detail of the advert.

He said not- but photos showed overdrive gearlever- getting a bit weaselly here- if you have a steering wheel - it doesn't say "connected to steering box" does it?
my Fault- should have checked it.

I can imagine your disappointment, having a working overdrive is quite desirable especially now they as expensive as a secondhand engine. Mine has a pto driven winch which I like the look of but I would love an overdrive, however, fitting one doesn't make economic sense.
