Hi all! I'm new to this club. I have a defender 90 pickup in good condition which I fancy doing up a bit. It looks like a farmer's vehicle - green with ifor williams canopy. I do keep a horse but I'm not a farmer! I'd like to remove the metal canopy & customise the pick up. If I found someone who could re-sray it privately, where could I get Chawton white paint from? Do I have to have it resprayed at a proper landrover garage? Is this expensive? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Cheers Jen.

Hi Jen
I've found these people very helpful (they're in Colnbrook, Berkshire, just off the M25 nr Slough, but they deliver too):

They do a type of paint called Tekaloid and they tell me they can match almost any colour in it. I think they cover the whole Land Rover range with this stuff (they certainly do Marine Blue and Limestone). It's fairly expensive (about £15 for 1L, £50 for 5L) but it's good stuff. All the steam engine, traction engine and veteran vehicle people use it. You can get a pretty reasonable finish with a brush or gloss roller if you don't want the hassle, mess and expense of spraying it.
I also came across this website. The guy sounds very knowledgeable and reckons you have to add varnish to some Tekaloid colours (no mention of Chawton White though).

DIY mate, just paint it yourself, takes a while, but if you have the time you save money, and you get great results, and you see the thing unfold as you do it. R
