My new disco sits on 8 spokes with 35 inch tyres, it has new 2 inch suspension lift and 2 inch axle spacers,question is apart from cutting bodywork and diff guards what else should I be looking at doing to it?thinking more about laning rather than pay and pray sites,are the tyres too big?do I drop down to a 31 or similar?new to all this so any suggestions welcomed.

You don't really need a modified vehicle for most lanes. ATs or a fairly non aggressive mud terrain is fine.
 
Will they rip body panels off though?

Standard size tyres or a couple of sizes above, no. very large aggressive tyres,yes! But you don't need such tyres for laning, save tham for P&P or challenges etc.

Also, try a search on the forum, the subject of tyre sizes has been touched on before! ;)
 
To hazard a guess, I'd say you'll need to do a bit of trimming for 35" tyres as they probably will catch a bit under articulation. Having said that, 4" of lift in total should give alot of room. Bet it's fun on roundabouts :D

35's are maybe a little excessive for green lanes but as said, if they don't cause much damage etc I wouldn't see a problem.

35's are pretty big tyres, so you're bearings might not last as long as with more regular sized tyres. When you eventually come to replace them, use Timken ones. Will outlast the rest.

Other upgrades - with that much lift I'd be looking at castor correction radius arms and a good / larger steering damper.

Wading kit might be a good idea if you plan on doing anything like that.

Good recovery points, winch/hi-lift jack/tirfor

Even on a lifted Disco, my 31" BFG AT's ripped parts of the bodywork when laning on more 'extreme' lanes!

1st thing I'd check with 35's is that you still get full turning without them rubbing on the radius arms etc, you might need to move the steering lockstops a bit.

Then check the amount of space you get at full 'stuff', climb a wall with one front tyre and see how far into the wheel well the tyres stuffs itself and whether anything gets rubbed, then do the same for the other corners!

Be aware that new 35's on older running gear will likely destroy old bushes quite quickly, similarly uj's and drive train might get a bit sloppy too.
