I have a FL1, its got really crappy wheels on it that look too narrow and a bit like bicycle wheels.. id like to beef it up a bit so what do i do?
the wheels on are 15inch i think and tyre size are 195/80/R15.

What can i do to make it look less like a pram?

Thanks Emma x

Do you have steel or alloy wheels? If they are steel try to find some alloys but if you have them allready i would keep them, the 15" are the best in the snow (in my opinion) and handle well. 16" are not too bad but I am not a fan of F1 with the 17" option tend to wander a bit and can be harsh but are good on dry roads, as I recall been a while since ive seen one especially without pot holes.

My 1.8 Freelander has the 15" alloys and same tyre size as yours. I know what you mean about the look as our other Freelander has 17" alloys with 225 x 55 tyres and they look much better but the 15's are best in snow etc

If you plan to put all terrain tyres on, don't put 17" wheels on as you can't get all terrain tyres for them as there's not enough clearance. Also, the wheels were modified slightly in 2000 meaning that pre-2000 Freelander wheels will not fit on post 2000 Freelanders. (but not vice versa) The change was made due to Freelanders being fitted with larger rear brake drums as standard.

Also, the Freelander will always look like a pram, that's why it's nicknamed "The Gaylander". You can change that somewhat by doing a few modifications:

Of course, all of the above modifications are necessary in order to do the school run. You never know what you may encounter!

Cheers, i think they are steel.. when ive looked on Fleabay ive seen some similar to mine which are steel. Does this mean i have to put up with it then? ive just bough some side steps to try and man it up a bit so ill get them fitted and hopefully it may look a tad less like a Raleigh!

xx

If you have steel wheels they will look like this

And if you dont want to change your tyres then get the 15" alloy wheels like this and you can swap your tyres onto the alloy rims

I got the 17" HSE alloys and they handle pretty good and as they are 225 wide they look pretty manly. Just remember that the wider and lower profile tyres cost more and use slightly more fuel.

cheeerz guys.. they are steel by the looks of things.. if i got 15inch alloys could i go for a wider tyre? if thats a really stupid question please feel free to shout.. after all i am a woman and have ventured out of the kitchen to use the laptop... :)

I've just bought some 215/80/15 falken all terrains, hopefully a bit more off road grip than my old rubbish continental contacts.

I recently swapped my 15" steel wheels for a set of 18" alloys...
Love the little bit of extra height.

Pre 2000 steel wheels will fit post 2000 and face lift.

Strange, some of us with the drug dealer 18" alloys can not wait to get them off and put on a set of steelies to get muddy in and thats just using them on the roads here in North Yorks !

Yes those look like my sport alloys which with the correct 235 50 18 tyre have the same diameter (27.25in) as the steel 195 80 15 (27.28in) I use off road so do not make it any higher (worst luck) well maybe 0.015 of an inch. .
