Hi guys,

I’ve ordered a set of challengers with a -35 offset. Currently running standard wheels on a 30mm spacer so wasn’t too concerned about things but I’m wondering if these are going to look a bit silly and be pushed right outside the arches.

Does anyone have any experience / photos of a -35 offset on 16x7 and all terrains?

What size tyres are you going to use that you need such a wide offset. I used 37x 12.5x 16 trepadors on a-35 offset 10” rim. It needed wide arches to be road legal.

The answer is probably yes... but it does depend on what you are wanting to achieve and why you want such deep off set rims.

Stock rims are 6.5" and +33ET offset. So a 30mm Spacer would make it like an +03ET rim. -35ET is massively more offset.

In fact if it is a 7" wide rim, -35mm off set would give you a 5" dish on the front and only a 2" dish on the back of the rim.

I would think these may well stick out beyond the wheel arches, which if you are in the UK would be illegal. Thus needing wider wheel spats.

Effectively I just like the challenger wheels. I’m on the standard wheels with a 30mm spacer now and was figuring that the -35 would just sit 5mm further out. It sounds like not only is that not the case, but they’re also going to put more strain on the car than needs be ?

If I’m trying to achieve the same look as the 30mm spacer do you know what offset I need on a 16x7?

So, offset is more complex than that. ET is the distance from the rims centre line that the mounting flange is. So a different width rim will have a different off set.

e.g. a 16 x 6.5" rim with say ET00 offset would be equal dish on both sides of the rim (3.5" in this case).

But if you had a 16 x 10" rim with ET00, it would have a 5" dish on each side.

Going for a very wide offset in theory puts more pressure on the wheel bearings and technically does impact the scrub radius. So it may handle differently on the road and might induce more bump steer. However, lots of people do run deep offset rims on Land Rovers. Biggest issue is them sticking out of the wheel arches. What size tyres are you planning on running?

I’m going to be running 265/75/16 BFG AT’s.

Thinking of just totally binning the challenger idea now as I like the dished version, but am not willing to have them sticking out of the arches and looking ridiculous.

Also, very much not keen to put any undue stress on an already chunky vehicle.

Looks like a refurb on the XS wheels it is and the question then becomes dark satin grey or black. Hmmn.

Always black, although I am going to judge you for have alloys rather than proper steels wheels!

you have exactly the same tyres I run on mine, and I am running an 8" wide modular with a ET+8 and this setup puts the edge of the tyre level with the edge of the spat as can be seen below with both the old and new AT tyres..
