How fast have you taken it and what you got under the hood?

Im not really one for speed but the other day i took it up to 93mph 200tdi i think it may have gone a little more but i eased off.

Never tried to go fast, I generally always sit at 60 but today it creeped up to 71  I had to ease off as I was frightened that I might travel back in time if I went any faster. Got a 200tdi in mine but I stuck new tyres on the other day and it seems a lot faster than before

Speedo said 75 , there was a bit more to go but that was plenty , it's no m3 after all.
It's td5 90

About 110 on the speedometer in my 110 TD5. Might have went a bit more but it was more than enough to be deemed a silly speed at that!!!

Had 75 out my 2.5 petrol 90. Definitely wont be doing it again, thought I would become airborne very soon.

Did a 200 mile roundtrip in the old Defender last night. '92 110 200tdi 190,000 miles on the clock. Needs must as the missus had borrowed the Discovery. Left Lancaster at midnight and was clocking 75 mph all the way which equates to 70 mph. Still got white knuckle syndrome but teeth are OK as I always carry my gum shield....... Blew the **** out the exhaust and warmed the oils nicely.

Haha nice little stories there :)

Erm yeh i dont think ill push it that far again as leaks sprung up everywhere lol and ya really gota shout at each other (passengers) to hear anything, this was with the vents open though :)

I have hit 95 down a big long hill that was scary didn't want to lift off as the weight would shift.

but it will sit at 80 without to much fuss 300tdi defender 90 (big tyres disco transfer) and feels pretty well planted on the road

Im surprised at how many of you are saying your scared goin over 80mph. You sure ur trucks aint got problems? lol

The issue is more how safe it is to do those speeds in a lot of Defenders, they're not meant for it tbh. Not taken mine very far since I put in a 1.2 transfer case but I'm sure it'll keep pulling strong past 90 if I were to try, used to sit at 70 and above no worries (apart from noise) with the old box.

But I wouldn't like to take it to those speeds unless the road was almost empty (disregarding the speed limit for a second ) and even then I wouldn't want to sustain it, suspension, steering and brakes not up to emergency action at those speeds IMO.

Because its a 2 tonne steel box with no abs on mud tyres.

In other words its not the speed its trying to stop!
